The Ministry of Education has initiated the second round of training for learning disabilities. This is part of the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme and is called the Capacity Building Programme on Specific Learning Disability. The main goal of the program is to equip Higher Educational Institutions with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively support students with specific learning disabilities. According to officials, the New National Education Policy 2020 recognizes learning disabilities as part of a set of students and aims for equitable and inclusive education for all. The policy states that HEIs (Higher Educational Institutions) must be aware of students with specific disabilities, including learning disabilities, and for them to be sensitive to addressing associated challenges.
During the first round of the programme, which took place from January to July in partnership with Changeinkk Foundation, a total of 27 Higher Educational Institutions, including Central Universities, IITs, IIITs, IIMs, IISERs, SPAs, and NITs, participated. The programme consisted of various sessions, including orientation, sensitization, master classes, in-person zone-wise workshops, and implementation monitoring.
The second cycle of the program, which started today and will run until December, will include both online and in-person sessions for a newly selected group of Higher Educational Institutions. This cycle will emphasise strategies and tools for identifying, assessing, and addressing the needs of students with Specific Learning Disabilities.
